Instruction

LESSON FORMAT

Students may take lessons on their own horse, although safe, well trained school horses that match each rider’s individual abilities are available to use at no additional cost. In addition to learning riding skills and mechanics in their lessons, students learn proper horse care and ground skills to increase their safety around horses. Beginner level students are assisted with catching, grooming, and tacking up their horse as they learn how to stay alert, recognize potential safety hazards, and handle horses safely. When they are able, students are expected to prepare their horse independently and properly care for them after their lesson.

A step-by-step and systematic lesson program develops short and long term goals with a clearly defined path to achievment. Lessons are fun and flexible, and develop riders with a great deal of balance, feel and understanding of the aids. Beginner riders are sterted on a longe line, where they can learn these basics while the horse is still in control of the instructor. Once basics are establshed, the rider learns how to control the horse in basic movements. Advanced lessons are taught from a biomechanical perspective, teaching riders how their position, weight and balance directly influences the horse. Cause, effect, and why is a resounding theme that helps riders understand finessed riding at a much deeper level.

CREATING GOALS

Our instructors are enthusiastic and goal-oriented, but encourage students to expand their interests and investigate new areas of the horse world. After developing a detailed understanding of riding fundamentals, students are welcomed and encouraged to create their own aspirations as a rider. The diversity offered by our team of instructors accomodates these interests as students find inspiration and personalize their riding goals. For riders with show ring ambitions, our instructors are qualified in many different disciplines from the local to national level.
